methane    音标拼音: [m'ɛθ,en]
n. 甲烷,沼气

甲烷,沼气

methane
n 1: a colorless odorless gas used as a fuel

Methane \Meth"ane\, n. [See {Methal}.] (Chem.)
A light, colorless, gaseous, inflammable hydrocarbon, {CH4};
marsh gas. It is the simplest of the aliphatic hydrocarbons.
See {Marsh gas}, under {Gas}.
[1913 Webster]

{Methane series} (Chem.), a series of saturated hydrocarbons,
of which methane is the first member and type, and
(because of their general chemical inertness and
indifference) called also the {paraffin (little affinity)
series}. The lightest members are gases, as methane,
ethane; intermediate members are liquids, as hexane,
heptane, etc. (found in benzine, kerosene, etc.); while
the highest members are white, waxy, or fatty solids, as
paraffin proper.
[1913 Webster]

methanogen \methanogen\ n.
A type of archaebacteria found in anaerobic environments such
as animal intestinal tracts or sediments or sewage, and
capable of producing {methane}; a source of natural gas.

  • Methane - Wikipedia
Methane is an organic hydrocarbon, and among the simplest of organic compounds Naturally occurring methane is found both below ground and under the seafloor and is formed by both geological and biological processes The largest reservoir of methane is under the seafloor in the form of methane clathrates
  • Methane | Definition, Properties, Uses, Facts | Britannica
Methane, colorless, odorless gas that occurs abundantly in nature and as a product of certain human activities Methane is the simplest member of the paraffin series of hydrocarbons and is among the most potent of the greenhouse gases
  • What is methane and why is it a safety concern?
What is methane and why is it a safety concern? Methane (a gas composed of carbon and hydrogen) is produced two ways: Through biologic decomposition of organic matter at shallow depths Swamps, landfills, and even shallow bedrock are some settings where this occurs
  • Importance of Methane | US EPA
Methane (CH 4) is a hydrocarbon that is a primary component of natural gas Methane is also a greenhouse gas (GHG), so its presence in the atmosphere affects the earth’s temperature and climate system
  • Methane - Earth Indicator - NASA Science
Methane (CH4) is a potent greenhouse gas and is the second-largest contributor to Earth's warming after carbon dioxide (CO2) A molecule of methane traps more heat than a molecule of CO2, but methane has a relatively short lifespan of 7 to 12 years in the atmosphere
  • Why Is Methane Worse Than CO2 for the Climate? - ScienceInsights
Methane is a more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide because each molecule traps significantly more heat Over a 100-year period, one ton of methane warms the planet 27 to 30 times as much as one ton of CO2 Over 20 years, that multiplier jumps to 81 to 83 times The reason methane doesn’t get top billing in most climate discussions is that there’s far less of it in the atmosphere
  • Methane | CH4 | CID 297 - PubChem
Methane is stored as methane hydrates in immense amounts both in Arctic regions and in marine sediments The worldwide amounts of methane hydrates are conservatively estimated to total twice the amount of carbon found in all known fossil fuels on earth
  • What is methane and whats its role in climate change? - dw. com
The answer is methane, or CH4 Over a 20-year timescale, methane traps around 84 times as much heat as carbon dioxide (CO2), which is released by burning fossil fuel
  • Facts about Methane - UNEP - UN Environment Programme
Methane (CH4), the primary component of natural gas, is responsible for approximately a third of the warming we are experiencing today
  • Methane - Center for Science Education
Methane accounts for about 20% of the heating effects by all of the greenhouse gases combined Both natural and human sources supply methane to Earth's atmosphere Major natural sources of methane include emissions from wetlands and oceans, and from the digestive processes of termites
