the genus {Buteo} and related genera.

vulture} ({Cathartes aura}), and sometimes
indiscriminately to any vulture.

Note: The {Buteo vulgaris} is the common buzzard of Europe.
The American species (of which the most common are

lineatus}) are usually called hen hawks. -- The
